At Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery in North Smithfield, RI, USA the phrase “cow to cone” isn’t just a tagline – it’s a commitment. Since 1914, their family-owned farm has been producing high-quality dairy products, from milk to baked goods, and now, their latest venture: Wright’s Creamery.

This creamery takes Wright’s long-standing traditions and spins them into something new and exciting – handcrafted ice cream. The farm’s dedication to quality shines in every scoop, thanks to its approach of controlling every step of the process, right down to the custom labels on the ice cream containers. Every tub of ice cream Wright sells carries a custom label printed in-house using the company’s QuickLabel QL-120Xe printer.

The Power of In-House Labeling

Before bringing labeling in-house, Wright’s faced the usual challenges of outsourcing: long lead times, minimum order quantities, and the risk of waste from over- or under-ordering. Now, with the QL-120Xe, Wright has transformed its process, gaining complete control over label production.

“With the QL-120Xe, we can design a new label in the evening and have it printed and ready to go the next morning,” says Cate Kennedy, food operations manager and fifth-generation family owner/operator. “That quick turnaround allows us to adapt to production needs, whether we’re introducing a new flavor or restocking a favorite.”

The flexibility of the QL-120Xe doesn’t just save time – it reduces waste. Wright’s no longer needs to predict exact quantities or wait for shipments of pre-printed labels. Instead, it can print only what the company needs, when it needs it.

Labels That Withstand the Test

Ice cream labeling poses specific challenges: the containers need to survive freezing temperatures, condensation, and handling. Wright’s labels, printed with the QL-120Xe, are up to the task. They remain vibrant and intact, ensuring the brand’s clean, sharp look stands out in every freezer case.

“For us, branding is about more than just aesthetics,” Kennedy explains. “It’s about trust. When customers see our name on a beautifully labeled product, they know they’re getting something made with care.”

Bringing the Farm to the City

Wright’s Creamery is more than just a local business; it’s a way to connect city dwellers with the farm’s traditions. Through its products and branding, Wright’s brings a little piece of the farm to every customer, ensuring each pint of ice cream is an experience of freshness and authenticity.
